Shelving Systems – Used and New

Commercial Grade Shelving – New and Used

We all accumulate and need stuff and to keep it relevant and organized shelving is a must. Whether for a home, office, retail stock room, warehouse, distribution centre or fabrication shop, shelving is an indispensable organizer.

There are unlimited style options available – from the original bolt-together version to new, highly configurable bolt-less styles offered with colour choice and choice of shelving materials. Given the cost of labour, the bolt-together systems of old are becoming too costly to set-up and adjust for most installations.

Shelving systems can be quickly assembled and adjusted to match the exact dimensions of a room or space. They can form the basis for a multi-level mezzanine or catwalk system, be enclosed for security, have shelves of wood, metal, or wire mesh fronted with doors, mounted with parts drawers, set up with workbenches – the possibilities are endless.

Due to their durable design, bolt-less systems will last for years and CMI has re-purposed used systems many times. Our stock of used can be combined with new pieces to provide a cost effective solution for applications large and small.

There are also specialized shelving systems available for specific applications such as food preparation kitchens, cold storage, horticulture, etc.

We stock used and new in a variety of style from EZrect, Easyup and Metalware plus a number of specialty manufacturers for specific applications such as cold or grocery storage.

Wire Mesh Deck

Wire Mesh Deck for Pallet Rack and Shelving Systems

Wire mesh deck have evolved into an integral part of selective pallet racking and shelving storage systems.  Historically, many businesses used plywood supported by metal support bars or 2 x 6 lumber. However, building codes and fire protection regulations have also evolved and wire mesh is now the preferred standard.

Wire mesh deck – styles:

There are many wire mesh deck styles available to meet specific system designs.

  • Drop-in mesh is designed specifically for use in racks that have step beams so the the mesh either sits flush with the shelf edge or has only the wire mesh water fall over the front and back.
  • Flared wire mesh will typically work with all styles of beams (box or step) since the support bars extend over the top of the beam and this mesh style always has a waterfall front and back edge.
  • Both of the above styles can also be made with a support bar that is commonly referred to as “food-grade”. The support bars is welded into the mesh in a way that ensures that water, dirt or other substances falling onto the mesh is not trapped in the support bar – and is shed below, to the floor for clean-up.
  • Finishes can also be important and the two most commonly available is a zinc-plate/galvanized finish or powder-coated. Preference is usually dictated by the storage environment. Zinc-coated mesh is best suited for cold or damp storage or outdoor storage. Powder coated mesh is becoming popular as powder coating systems are incorporated into manufacturing lines and is popular if colour preference is important.
  • Weight capacity is also a design consideration and most wire mesh is designed to support an uniformly distributed load (UDL) of 2500lbs as a minimum. However, it is very important to note that the wire mesh deck weight bearing capacity must be calculated as part of the overall system which includes the upright frames and beams and the shelf elevations of the storage system.
  • There are also custom shelving solutions to meet the specific requirements of the product to be stored. Carpet and lino storage, furniture storage and produce storage can all require specific shelving.
